Burglar Again Makes Appearance In City After Night Of Breakins
A repeated burglar prowled the city Friday night making ten to twelve attempts to rob homes and businesses. He used a bicycle to mislead pursuers and escaped despite near captures, aided by a bloodhound that refused to pick up the scent. He struck multiple residences including the Spiers home on West Adams, Barnes on West Kirkwood, and the Harry Davis grocery in New Chicago, with minor thefts and entry attempts reported. The trail went cold as the tracker dog failed to follow a train, and officers offered rewards while noting a lack of a solid suspect description.

Robbery at North Court home reportedly yields small haul
The home of Wirt B. King on North Court street was entered Monday night. The thief took seven dollars and about two dozen jars of tanned fruit. It is believed the thief aimed to steal Mrs. King’s valuable new coat.

Libertyville Man Disappears Under Strain of Threats
Ben Newman a Fairfield restaurant owner and butcher from Libertyville is missing, as is a domestic worker from his household. His wife, grief stricken, reportedly tried to take strychnine but was halted by him taking the poison. He, 35, was last seen boarding Rock Island train No 61 Saturday night, with a young maid nearby from Ft Madison.

Ducks Rescue After Ice Encasement At Mr Stever’s Pond
Ralph Stever of the west side reports a remarkable duck incident as six birds became trapped by ice at his pond. He chopped the ice, warmed and fed the flock, and all forty three ducks survived. A burglar gained entry through a closet window and fled after a frightened girl and Mrs. King heard noises. The thief moved about the first floor three times before the power was turned on and scared him off. Police were notified too late to pursue.
