Burglars Hit Fairfield Store and Homes Missing Small Sums

Several Fairfield residences on West Washington and East Burlington streets were burglarized Saturday night. Maddox & Maxwell grocery store was entered with an axe through a basement window. about $1.30 was taken from the money drawer. A revolver disappeared from the Moyer home and a few small items from other houses. Sheriff Campbell summoned a tracking dog from Agency City. the scent led to an east Fairfield home. No arrests reported.

Ice Plant Officers Elected In Fairfield

At a meeting in the office of A B Rodgers the Fairfield Pure Ice Company was formed with $60 000 capital stock. Officers named Charles J Fulton president Samuel K West vice president Frank West secretary treasurer. Directors include C J Fulton S K West Frank West A B Rodgers and L S Bradshaw. A well will be drilled on South Depot street east of Rock Islands tracks as a first step toward building an ice manufacturing plant.

Ladies Host Dinner and Halloween Social at Woods Home

A club of ladies entertained their husbands at a six o'clock dinner last evening at the home of Mr. and Mrs. George Woods. After dinner guests joined in Halloween games and contests in the parlors before departing for the night.

The Jewel Water Improvement Company secures a sixteen thousand dollar contract for a water filter with City Clerk William Long. The deal includes filter beds pumps and connections. Fairfield welcomes Oaks and Mills cheaper power and a ten year light contract.

Banta Couple Celebrate 20th Wedding Anniversary

Mr and Mrs Oscar Banta held their twentieth anniversary at home on North Court Street entertaining about 35 guests. Their three daughters Myrtle Blanche and Merle helped with games a ribbon guessing contest awards a luncheon and gifts of china linen and cut glass. Rev Po?t who married them in Salem Iowa twenty years ago could not attend.

Death of Jackson Ankrom A Keosauqua Boarding House

Fairfield Teacher Maude Brown Weds Dr W C Smith

An unexpected announcement states Miss Maude Brown of Fairfield and Dr W C Smith of Sioux City quietly married in July in Corning where the bride was visiting. The bride, a popular Fairfield Public Schools teacher and eldest daughter of Mr and Mrs Ze'l Brown, grew up here and is a Fairfield High School graduate.

Lewis Lipps Weds Miss Fishel in Batavia Wedding

In Batavia Iowa on October 25 1920 the home of Mr Frank Fishel hosted the simple wedding of Miss Inez Fishel eldest daughter to Lewis Lipps of Lockridge Rev O J Fix officiated and the ceremony occurred before about sixty guests A three course dinner followed the reception with blue and white décor and a large shower bouquet of white tea roses after which the couple left for Fairfield and Chicago and will reside in Lockridge after November 10 The bride is a noted musician and Miss Fishel was honored with multiple showers and gifts from friends and relatives including Ottumwa and Fairfield visitors.

Chicaso plans two rapid transit subways with two routes each. One for elevated traffic and one for surface trolley lines. Elev ated subways would be 5 887 miles long costing 9 812 000. Surface car subways 3 892 miles long costing 9 328 000. Mayor Harrison approved.

Potash Found In West Says Wilson Saving Millions

Secretary Wilson announced that rich potash deposits located in the West by Agriculture Department scientists could supply U S needs and save about 12 million dollars annually. He did not reveal the exact location of the deposits.
