Saturday marked the 50th anniversary of May muster for Company C Second Iowa Infantry. Four veterans—Hon. David B. Wilson, Daniel Walmer, John R. Mew Elderry, and Benjamin M. Mikesell—still live in Fairfield, recalling the city park gathering and four years of service.

Charles Lotridge a longtime Beckwith Fairfield and Jefferson County resident died at home Saturday evening after six months of ill health. Funeral was Monday at Parsonsville with Rev. H. M. Burns. burial at Union Cemetery. Born July 25 1824 in Montgomery County NY he lived in NY Virginia Iowa and finally Fairfield Beckwith. He married Thalia in 1869 and had four children two died in infancy Lydia survives with devoted care for her parents. He was a trusted neighbor and a devoted husband and father. The silent summons came at 8 o’clock May 6 after a long active life.

Word comes of the death of Rev. E L Schreiner at his Albia home following months of illness. He served many Iowa charges from 1865 to 1904 including Fairfield 1890 1905 and built strong Sunday schools. Survived by two children Marie Schreiner Ames and Mrs Horace Barnes Albia and second wife Anna Johnson plus two brothers J A Schreiner Mt Pleasant and M A Schreiner Ottumwa. Funeral Wednesday at Albia nine oclock and burial at Mt Pleasant.

Man Leaps From Moving Train in Ohio River
John Tucker and accomplice Alony C. Wilson tried escaping custody by leaping from a window of a moving train at forty mph into the Ohio river near Linton Indiana. The train stopped after the bridge as boats searched for Tucker with no trace found. Tucker, a section foreman on the Indianapolis Southern, was being taken back from Elizabethtown Illinois to face forgery charges involving $265.
