Fort Madison girls beat Fairfield 9 to 8 in a closely fought early game. Fairfield boys then surged in the second half to win 37 to 23, avenging the sisters and placing both Fairfield teams ahead of Fort Madison on the season. A large crowd watched strong team play across the day.

Holy Week Services Planned at Fairfield Churches

The Fairfield Guernsey Club, formed to promote Guernsey cattle in Jefferson county, reports three members C J Brawner W B Castall and G M Enlow recently bought Lady's Glenwood 8533 of Wilcox Stubbs Co. The cows include Dairy Maid of Pine Hurst and Judette of Pinehurst with daughters earning high butter fat and top prices. One daughter sold for 400 to Mr Woods Omaha, another shipped to Barnhart, and a young heifer to join a Dairy Special tour. Three registered sites Lady's Glenwood 6533 Rosettes Harry 10914 and Harry's Gypson Boy 14220 exemplify strong breed stock near Fairfield.

Jefferson county pioneer Mrs. Cillisa Jane Simmons died at home near Four Corners after a week with measles. Born September 21, 1831 in Illinois, she moved to Jefferson county as a girl and married Riley Simmons at 14. Survived by many children in Kansas California and Pensylvania, plus a sister, she was active in the Evangelistic church. Funeral Saturday at 1 30 p m at the residence, burial in Lockridge cemetery near Salina.

History of Jefferson County in February 1910 notes mild weather with persistent ground ice causing many fall injuries. Several local weddings occurred in Galva Ottumwa Lockridge and Fairfield. Deaths include Wm Humphrey in Pleasant Plain and Solomon Wilhelmsdorfer near Packwood with other obituaries in Ottumwa Batavia Davenport and Round Prairie. An 82 year old Templeton who built the first grain elevator also noted. The month records the year’s first self-inflicted death.

Death of longtime Jefferson County resident Daniel Blucker
Daniel Blucker died Tuesday evening at about nine o’clock at his home near Glasgow after a year long illness. He was about 75, survived by his wife and two children at home. Funeral services will be held Friday morning in Glasgow with burial in the local cemetery. His death is noted by many friends in the community.
