Fuel for the Navy It is More Efficient Than Coal
The Providence Journal notes the U S Navy relies on coal from Virginia to Pennsylvania and uses coal for steaming efficiency, but oil fuel is increasing. Oil reduces fireroom crew and soot, with two oilers Kanawha and Cimarron capable of 14 knots and 7654 tons. Coaling at sea remains a demanding, dusty duty aboard ship.
