Notable Men Visit Fairfield Ball For Governor Carroll
Fairfield welcomed Governor B. F. Carroll and a host of dignitaries with a citywide display of national colors. A noon procession formed in the square and escorted the governor to Leggett House for a formal dinner as local and state officers arrived from Des Moines Oskaloosa Burlington Iowa City Centerville Davenport Corning Clarinda and Iowa State University. Capt Mumma and other officers were among those expected.

Officers of Company M and the Fairfield Armory recount the unit’s past inspections and welcome the visiting officer. The Fairfield Armory, incorporated May 9 1910 with 20000 capital, is built on Barndollar property at Broadway and B streets with a 1700 seating drill hall and extensive rooms. Funds raised include a Hard Tack social netting about 50, Sunday meetings yielding 150, and concerts at Chautauqua Park and Des Moines encampments generating proceeds. purchases and site changes include Ricksher property and Barndollar site, with 500 remaining in treasury after a mass meeting.
