Parsons College Commencement Brightens Local Pride

Parsons College held a commencement with Dr. Craig announcing a $10,000 gift from Thomas D. Foster toward a new gymnasium. George Parsons and Mr. Smouse pledge $1,000 each, while eight graduates spoke on topics from Count Witte to American diplomacy, and diplomas were awarded to 13 graduates with honorary degrees. The alumni dinner at the Presbyterian church was a grand success.

Alumni Song and Dinner Eulogize Parsons College

A campus dinner at Parsons College includes toasts by Rev William Carter and Col Heaton and readings by Roscoe Thomas and others. Alumni Edith Smock introduces an alumni song praising Parsons with a lament for the campus fire that claimed the building and echoed across the western lands.

Robinson's Show Delights Fairfield Crowd At Fairgrounds

John Robinson's circus drew an overflowing audience last Saturday praising every act. The parade impressed with a two mile street display, the Peacock band wagon and dragon of holy writ highlighted a high quality procession. Lions, baby leopards named Rockefeller and Ellis, and a lively clown drew crowds while the show billed itself as clean and moral, pleasing locals beyond expectation.

Circus Visit Sparks Malleable Iron Triumph in Fairfield

The Malleable Iron team defeated the circus nine 17 to 7 in Fairfield after accepting a challenge from the traveling players. The circus posted twenty two hits but could not overcome the home squad. Also, a daughter was born Saturday to Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Roth in Rock Rapids, with Mrs. Roth formerly Miss Elstebordyce of Fairfield, prompting many congratulations.

Randall Merckens Wedding Celebrated in Fairfield Home

The June 9 1906 ceremony united Miss Elsie Golden Randall and Mr W Cortlandt Merckens at the Randall home three miles east of Fairfield with Rev Thos Osborn officiating. About 100 relatives and friends attended a formal supper as gifts in silver glass and china were presented, the couple planning to reside on North Main Street in Fairfield after June 20.
