The report notes rapid corn growth this week with normal temperatures and minimal moisture issues. Early corn shows normal height and tassels. stands affected by defective seed and haying advances indicate good quality but potentially lower yields. Oats barley rye harvests progress. spring wheat fills well. potato crop looks heavy. apples doing nicely.
Special to Journal from Springfield notes harvesting and threshing slowed by rain with damaged wheat in shock. Corn remains in good condition and advancing rapidly, larger portions laid by. Central and southern districts report harvests with good yields while northern areas see slower progress and a turn toward ripe fields.
Des Moines telegram reports the Supreme Court denies a re hearing in the tax ferret case. Attorney C E Albrook must restore about $8,000 to the county treasury including interest and costs for a contract courts deemed illegal.

A drowning near Davenport is corrected from Carl Teeter to Carl Peterson a 20 year old son of Andrew Peterson of Perlae. He fell from logs while rafting on the Mississippi River Monday. The body was found at 9 this morning and will be taken to Peterson's home for funeral services in Salica tomorrow afternoon.
Toliff Andreson, a wealthy retired farmer from Loop Grove, Buena Vista County, shot his wife dead and then killed himself Monday afternoon. A daughter witnessed the scene. jealousy over her mother’s departure and refusal to reunite with him sparked the tragedy.
Special to Journ from London reports Russia apologizing to England for seizing a mail steamer in the Red Sea. The item notes Rev Parsons of Danville Mines becoming president of Pare 8008 College at Fairfield Kew and View and Mre Harkness of Fairfield spent the day in the city. It also mentions C.
