At 10:30 pm Thursday the churches of Fairfield joined in a united service at the Congregational church. The program included doxology invocation scripture prayer sermon and hymns with a triumphal anthem. Treasurer’s report and a charity collection were noted.

Mrs Sarah J Chalmers widow of the late Ward Chandler of this county died last Sunday night at her home in this city Born in Easex county New York in 1822 She came to Jefferson county Iowa in 1841 with Ward Chandler They had ten children two died in infancy two sons and two daughters died later Her husband died in 1869 leaving a large family to rear She and her daughter Miss Vina have lived in this city for twenty two years She suffered a stroke of paralysis in recent years affecting memory.

Fairfield Cancels With Local High School Team
The Keokuk Constitution reports Fairfield cancelled their game with the local high school squad citing cold feet. Manager Putman denies any hesitation, blaming snow and ice on the field and financial risk if the Keokuk team visits. Gasoline Explosion Burns Windsor Hotel Proprietress
Tuesday morning around nine o'clock Mrs. Nettie Jones owner of the Windsor hotel was badly burned by a gasoline explosion. She spilled gasoline on her dress while tending to duties and, as she moved toward the stove, the dress caught fire. Neighbors including J B Griffith helped extinguish the flames. she remains in pain but able to be up.

Mrs Thomas Dead Leaves Hedrick Community
The Hedrick Journal reports the death of Mrs. Lydia A Day Thomas of Hedrick. The body was taken to Fairfield Cemetery for burial after she died at home. Mrs. Thomas, born March 13 1883 in Washington County Pennsylvania, had lived in Hedrick for years and left six children, five surviving: H D Thomas Patrfield B S Thomas Ottumwa Wilson Thomas Leonora Thomas and Mrs Emma Crawford Hedrick.
