London reports a major French northward push east of Noyon places the Germans in full retreat along a 31 mile front between the Oise and Aisne rivers. French tanks and infantry overpower the retreating forces while the Germans abandon large quantities of stores.
British forces recaptured Albert and advanced along a six mile front from Bray to Albert. About 5000 German prisoners were taken in two days as French and British drives expanded, with U S troops possibly involved and a wide advance across the Somme front under heat and dust.
Mrs. Agathe O Stewart, longtime secretary to William C Redfield, becomes the only woman secretary to a cabinet minister beside David Lloyd George. Her tenure in Redfield’s service spans years before his move to Washington.
