Clarke case jury returns not guilty verdict after delay
The State of Iowa v John Clarke saw the jury depart Wednesday night and return at 2 25 this afternoon with a not guilty verdict after asking for further instructions. Clarke faced cattle theft charges from Batavia parties. the case, tried months earlier, was reversed by the Supreme Court and remanded for a new trial. At a joint meeting the Citizens Armory committee and Company M committee, Elin J. Wilson as trustee was authorized to purchase the Katherine Barndolar property at East Broadway and B Streets for the new armory. W. G. Ross, Capt. J. F. P. Ready and R. J. Wilson were named to form a committee to incorporate the project and begin building. Stock in the armory company bearing four percent guaranteed interest has been subscribed with no trouble, raising the original $6000.
