A study into dredge operations on the Tanana River is planned to assess opportunities for improving sediment removal and navigation. Officials consider potential economic and shipping benefits, with local agencies coordinating with state engineers and tribal representatives.
T A Rickard editor of the San Francisco Mining and Scientific Press and Scott Turner a Tacoma mining engineer travel on the Lavelle Young to Fairbanks. They plan a thorough study of Tanana placer fields to assess potential for dredging and hydraulic development and overall northern gold field prospects from Treadwell to Candle.
New York will participate in the Alaska-Yukon-Pacific exposition with a building and exhibit. The state legislature has appropriated $75,000 for this purpose. A commission of two senators and three assemblymen will oversee the project. An additional entertainment appropriation is anticipated at the next legislative session.

Dawson July 28 The Yukon council in session a week but gains little amid Mem ber Black obstruction tactics against John Pringle reform efforts. Commissioner Henderson rebuked Black while Black prepared to press a bitter fight on the supply bill, with elections plan for a wholly elective council also stalling.
A. E. Light secretary to Delegate Cale offered only general remarks on Seattle Alaskans sentiment toward Alaska politics while in Dawson. He has shifted tactics since Cale withdrew. Light departed on the Young last night to Fairbanks to attend mining interests there.
Chicago July 29. A riot broke out during attempts to win the convention's endorsement of William Jennings Bryan. Police clubs subdued rioters as the third party nominated Thomas Hisgen for president and John Temple Graves for vice president. William A. Hearst was elected chairman of the independent campaign.
In a five game series clincher at Willow Park the Klondikers beat Dawson 8 to 4 to claim the championship. Geiss started for Fairbanks as Dawson led early but Klondikers rallied with key hits from Graff and McCarthy as Fairbanks pulled ahead in the fifth only to watch Dawson fall behind again. The game featured errors and spirited betting amid a large crowd and concluded the Dawson Fairbanks series with Klondikers the victors.
Articles signed for the world title clash between Joe Gang and Battling Nelson. The fight is set for September 9 in Colma Nevada. Sporting circles show strong interest in the bout and its outcome.
The Yukon reform wave reaches the creeks as authorities raid places of ill fame in the camp near Dawson. Women arrested face fines of 50 dollars and 10 days to leave the territory. Several have hired counsel to pursue the case in court.
Seattle July 29 Special Agent James Farmer of the United States government has been appointed to head the collection of Alaska exhibits for the Alaska Yukon Pacific fair. He will cooperate with Governor Hoggatt and base his headquarters in Sitka as he proceeds toward Juneau to select exhibits showing Alaska's resources. Farmer leaves for Juneau near Saturday.
A major blaze in Metropolis Oregon destroys about half a mile of structures. Firefighters from multiple crews battled flames overnight, preventing spread to nearby blocks and leaving several buildings severely damaged or ruined. No fatalities reported as of morning, investigations underway.
A morning blaze in Portland destroyed a half mile of buildings between Fifth and Hoyt and Sixth and Gillion, causing an estimated loss of at least a quarter of a million dollars before fire crews could halt the spread. The city faced extensive damage as most structures in the area were laid waste.
