Local notes from Marshall and area activities
A jumble of names and events: visits in Marshall, church events, conventions and meetings in Lansing and Battle Creek, probate actions, sales of horses, and social gatherings. Included are notices of upcoming Prohibition County Convention, resignations, marriages, and local business gestures amid a busy civic scene.
Fraud Case Attracts Attention Of Farmers Inquest
George G. DeMott complains of William H Howard who propped a bohemian oats scheme through the Farmers Benefits Association with a $10 000 capital note. DeMott bought 25 bushels for 250 dollars, got horses and harness as payment, but the note proved worthless and the company illusory. Howard’s examination adjourned to Feb 24 before Justice Foley. The report notes other victims and potential circuit court action if needed.
