Ben Langitt once a well known citizen of Parkersburg committed suicide last night by leaping from a moving train on the C W and O road near Terah ten miles east of here. His head was severed from his body upon the impact. Friends had prevented a prior attempt during a protracted spree. An accident at Buffalo Bill’s Show in Youngstown on September 24 left two horses injured a cowboy named Barber bruised and a herder aiding after a steer nearly trampled him.

Late Sunday night the dead body of Silas Johnson, colored, pierced with three balls, was found on the roadside near town with a rope around his neck. His wife testified that sixteen persons came to the door and asked for Johnson as soon as his party car left, linking the case to earlier trouble. Andrew Sloan, a prominent lawyer of Silver City, died this morning of malarial fever and had served in the Forty-third Congress, native of Savannah, Georgia.
