Ruinous Flood in China Drowns Thousands in Kiang Sai

San Pablo brought Hong Kong advices dated August 15 and Yokohama dated August 30. Canton reports a frightful inundation in Kiang Sai province. The flood lasted four days, the country submerged to sixty feet, towns swept away, and it is believed about 70 000 persons perished. Fear of pestilence follows.

Blaine Sentinel libel suit ruling delays interrogatories

A Manhattan federal court session on September 14 denied a rule to require immediate answers to interrogatories in the Blaine Sentinel libel case. Senator Harrison argued the court had no authority to force a full answer day. Judge Woods preferred keeping interrogatories on file with a promise they would be answered soon, and the motion was refused. The matter may lead to an early trial date.

Dayr Eye-See trial at Kalamazoo ends with injury to horse

In Kalamazoo on a cool September Saturday Jay-Eye-See attempted two warm heats then a fast mile to meet record hopes. After the first heat the horse chilled and a quick fast mile followed to avoid spectator disappointment. J J Case halted further engagements for prudence as Hl. Phallas ran two heats in 2 19 34 and 2 1934.

Horrible Affair Ends in Murder Suicide at Messer Cottage

In Luoxton N D on September 15 a family tragedy unfolds as William W Messer shoots his wife Mary, daughter Thea Kitmeelf, and then himself after an early morning quarrel over a revolver. Mary and Thea were wounded. Messer died at the scene. Insanity attributed by the coroner’s jury amid sunstroke and eccentric conduct earlier in the year.

Murder at a Connecticut Butchery Tonight

William Johnson, a fugitive from justice, murdered his wife at a residence near Wallingford. After breaking into the house at midnight he killed her with a blow to the head while she slept, then fled. Tane Jackson and a third person were in the house. Johnson returned after leaving, but fled again as authorities were alerted.

Destructive Fire at Spanish Fort Resort

A fire Saturday at Spanish Fort near New Orleans destroyed several buildings on the east side of Bayou St John including Noyes Restaurant. Fire engines could not reach due to poor roads. losses run to about 320000 with insured roughly 9000. The Spanish Fort Opera House and Casiga survived as they were on the opposite bayou side.
