Flames Devour Florence Coal Breaker Saving Visitors
A Florence coal breaker in Pleasant Valley burned Sunday night when a pump runner, James Lynch, spilled kerosene on a lit lamp. Lynch, badly burned, warned a party of visitors inside the tower as flames reached the carriageway. The fire spread to nearby tenements, but miners and firemen contained it. The breaker cost 50 000 dollars and was insured for 35 800. Two hundred workers were displaced.
