Conventions Nominate State Tickets In Boston and Elsewhere
The Republican and Democratic state conventions met on September 4 with officers named and tickets nominated. Massachusetts Republicans renominated Governor Robinson by acclamation and endorsed a protective tariff, civil service reforms, and a strong navy. Democrats nominated William C Endicott for Governor and a full slate of officers, endorsing Chicago Platform goals and honest government. Death of Senator Anthony Proclaimed by Governor Bourne
The death of Hon. Henry B. Anthony, senior Rhode Island senator, occurred at his Providence residence Tuesday. Born April 1, 1815 in Coventry, he served as Rhode Island governor, U.S. senator, and led roles in 1866 Philadelphia Convention and state politics. The Providence funeral is set for Saturday at the First Congregational Church, with full public hours observed as a mark of respect.
