Worcester Centennial notes a grand parade of local and visiting groups and an all‑city decoration, with literary exercises at Mechanics Hall led by Mayor Heed. Governor Robinson and ex‑Attorney General Davis attended, as Senator Moor spoke on moral forces shaping the city’s history.
The Cunard liner Oregon reached Greenstown at 12:50 a.m. after departing New York October 8 at 0:57. The National line steamer America left New York shortly after the Oregon but had not yet been sighted by October 15. Several other items report smallpox in Dakota Argo township, a suicide near Lake Pontchartrain, and a sinking tug at Brookyn.
Three thousand spectators gathered at Charter Oak Park to watch Maud 8 attempt to surpass the 2 0027 record despite a cold northwest wind.
