Teffling Sum of Money Murders in a Saloon

J A Hoag of Farmington W T is murdered by Dillard Walker over a trifling debt in a Saloon at Pouxtiasn Oregon October 3. Hoag shot in the back then three more shots and beaten. Walker fled toward the Coeur d Alene Mountains as a posse pursues him.

Brutal assaults follow drunken husband’s killing act

In Chicago Mrs. Michael Shay gave birth to a stillborn child and died after her husband Clyde Woods returned intoxicated. Woods beat his wife with the dead child’s body and collapsed drunk. A cop arrested him as the tragedy unfolded. the woman died at twelve. Also reported are fires at Louisville village destroying 50 to 60 houses and a convent, Detroit physician General Throop’s self-inflicted gunshot, and a jealous murder in Hell’s Kitchen where Mary Linderman died from stab wounds.

Narrow Escape From Caisson Sinking At Havre De Grack Bridge

In Havre De Grack Maryland on October 2 a caisson used for the Baltimore Ohio bridge across the Susquehanna flooded. Superintendent John O'Brien and John Burns improvised a suction lock to bail water and rescue six trapped workers Patrick Kelly plus five others from the submarine chamber. The men emerged pale and muddy though mostly uninjured with one head cut by a spike. The rescue drew loud applause and is described as a bold nerve-filled effort.
