A thief or thieves entered the Baptist Church during the past week and broke open a large basement cupboard containing church property. A large quantity of crockery and other items were stolen. The church trustees offer a liberal reward for information leading to recovery of the property and conviction of those responsible.
In Grand Rapids Michigan the Supreme Court faces a divorce suit filed by C H W Beattie against his wife Maggie Beattie. He had sued his first wife, then remarried Mrs McQueen after a mortgage and a piano transfer, and later sought to dissolve mortgages and claim thirds in the Madison Avenue homestead. The case involves deeds between Beattie, Maggie Beattie and Mrs McQueen, as well as transfer of a piano to the former wife and a second divorce petition. The complication includes mortgage reinstatement and ownership disputes over the homestead as read in the Michigan press report.
A Journal interview with Mr. McMaten details rapid growth of the N Y & Penn Telephone district. Since 1878 the Buffalo area received the first line, with Jamestown Dunkirk and other exchanges forming by 1880.
