In Larronsnune Kentucky Judge Denny spoke for the Commonwealth in the trial of Congressman Phil Thompson for killing Davis. The jury acquitted after an hour outside, amid applause. Thompson was congratulated as the verdict drew loud, cheering.
Special to Associated Press reports Robert Cooper and others were lured from Jamaica to Mexico to work on a railroad. Ill treatment and unpaid wages followed, leading to them being sold as slaves for three years to cover passage costs. Cooper avoided further bondage by threatening a British Government appeal, reached New Orleans, and was sent to New York by the British consul for Jamaica.
Mrs Dora Sober nikow 21 years' sentence for luring an immigrant girl to a disreputable resort in 1890. attempts by Fellows and ex Alderman Krause to win pardon funded by her husband. governor declines after DA advised. Medical certificate faked to show feebleness cited. Fellows says Krause claimed she was invalid. Springfield, IL. House deadlocked over high license but Amends beer £250 whisky £500. Also noted are grape vine optimism after winter and a heavy plowing accident in Hess Great Valley causing injuries.
Special Dispatch to the Evening Observer from Downis May 17 reports Mullett O'Brien Mr Caffery Delaney Moray and Doyle pleaded guilty and were arraigned. The first five received ten years penal servitude each while Doyle got five years. Mathias Brady pleaded guilty to threatening the jury foreman but was discharged with consent of the crown and the threatened person.
Special Dispatch reports O'Donnell a member of Parliament says the Vatican is misled by spirits exploiting Irish ignorance in Rome. Unconfirmed El Paso rumors place Gen Crook in Apache conflict talks. Lancaster arrives in Veronstadt with envoys for the czar coronation. Gorothekoff interred at St. Sergius Church in St. Petersburg with emperor and officials present.
