Thompson's Trial Acquitted of Murder Charge

In Larronsnune Kentucky Judge Denny spoke for the Commonwealth in the trial of Congressman Phil Thompson for killing Davis. The jury acquitted after an hour outside, amid applause. Thompson was congratulated as the verdict drew loud, cheering.

Airing of a Slave Labor Claim Involving Jamaica to Mexico

Special to Associated Press reports Robert Cooper and others were lured from Jamaica to Mexico to work on a railroad. Ill treatment and unpaid wages followed, leading to them being sold as slaves for three years to cover passage costs. Cooper avoided further bondage by threatening a British Government appeal, reached New Orleans, and was sent to New York by the British consul for Jamaica.

Jury threats and guilty pleas lead to heavy sentences

Special Dispatch to the Evening Observer from Downis May 17 reports Mullett O'Brien Mr Caffery Delaney Moray and Doyle pleaded guilty and were arraigned. The first five received ten years penal servitude each while Doyle got five years. Mathias Brady pleaded guilty to threatening the jury foreman but was discharged with consent of the crown and the threatened person.
