Rome reports Garibaldi family present as the Caprera unveiling is held and the Chamber approves a bill to allocate 890000 lire annually to compensate families ruined by Bourbon pillage in 1849 and 1600.

Three hundred drivers and conductors on the State-street Cable Railway strike at noon over wage cuts. Some cars are run by new men while the rest of the lines are abandoned. Strikers later gathered on Cottage Grove and State Street, attempted to halt service, and used force, including dragging workers from cars and throwing rotten eggs.
Special Telegram reports the steamship Langshaw laden with grain and cattle wrecked off Newfoundland near St John’s. The crew were saved. The incident occurred this morning as Barnton’s Circus specials up to 5 P M were noted.
