Strangely Affected By Copperhead Bite Recurs Each Anniversary
A Ramage county daughter was bitten on the right hand by a copperhead years ago. Two tiny blood marks appeared then followed by swelling and illness. The snake was killed and she recovered, but every year on the anniversary of the bite the right hand swells and she grows sick again. Remedies are applied to combat the renewed symptoms, and she remains in danger this year. The case interests medical observers, as none of her children are affected.

Bucolic episode of cattle world and a bull attack
A vivid Rochester area sketch describes Cornelius Banta's country estate with a Persian bull and a hired man. The bull turns on the man, knocks him down, then drags him by the nose ring before being restrained. A donkey joins the mischief with sheep, and the man recovers, returning to work. The piece shifts to a St Louis note on the popular "fly-loo" card game in saloons, where players wager using sugar lumps as tokens and a fly as the trigger.
