In Silver Creek New York Constable Freeman arrested Martin Dailey a long suspected swindler tied to a 12 year old money-for-false-pretenses case. Dailey once prospered, later lost fortune, married, and fathered two children before fleeing with 1206 dollars owed to LeRoy Oatman. He traveled from Buffalo to Angola Irving and Silver Creek before being sent to Buffalo for custody.
Lilly Parry, reported abducted from Syracuse by her mother, arrived in Movwearous. Met by the fiancé at the depot, they secured a marriage license and married that evening at a friend’s house. After initial shock she submitted, then crossed into Wisconsin asserting independence.

John Hoehne of Suspension Bridge was arrested in Bunce New York on a seduction under promise of marriage charge. The accuser, Emma Stebe, is a farmer’s daughter from Fon du Lac county Wisconsin on the lake’s east shore. Hoehne denies the charge and was taken to Fon du Lac by requisition from the governor, via Sheriff C. S. Matteson.
Report from Port Towssenp Washington Territory dated July 12 notes large scale smuggling of Chinese laborers from British Columbia. Nine were captured last Saturday, but limited customs force leaves many unprohibited arrivals. Estimates indicate up to fifty smuggled at a time.
Judge Lynch reports that on Tuesday night Dennis Hagerty and Henry Dowling met James Lynn and a Swede three miles from town. After shooting Lynn and beating the Swede they robbed them of a few dollars. Hagerty and Dowling were arrested last evening and then hanged by citizens. Lynn and the Swede are believed to die.
A former wealthy citizen Andrew White living on a farm in Illinois escaped an asylum, bought a revolver, and upon returning home called his wife and children to greet him.
