Escape of Lion Attacks Pony in Chicago Barn

A dramatic incident in Chicago West Side barn as Charlie the lion tamer entered the cage with a pony and children. The lion leaped onto the pony, crushed it, and savagely tore the animal, while the tamer Harris and a lady escaped. They chloroformed the lion to calm it and returned it to the cage. Unveiling of Morton Statue Draws Statewide Visitors

Crowds packed Ispranarosis Ind as ceremonies marked the unveiling of a bronze statue to late Senator Morton. Ex Governor Baker presided, with ex Secretary Thompson delivering the oration, followed by a march to Circle Park where the statue, 8 feet 4 inches tall on a granite pedestal, was revealed by Morton's grandson. The monument cost 3125,000, funded by public subscription.
