Special Dispatch reports Rev Nathan Edward a leading clergyman and ex-Mine Inspector Jones have been served with a summons on a complaint by Rev Dr Williams alleging they maliciously defamed his character by accusing him of habitually using stimulants. The case stands adjourned for this term.
Special Dispatch reports in Burravvo Jan 5 that the four year old daughter of Richard Pord was burned to death this afternoon while playing with an open grate. She died after suffering severe agony.
Special Dispatch to the Evening Observer reports Joshua Gifford and his son were held for examination and to appear before the grand jury in the murder of Mrs Gifford at Granil Bay. The investigation revealed startling developments causing great excitement among the well known parties.
Special Dispatch to the Evening Observer reports that George Clark, 19, was arrested in East Buffalo for outraging a little girl he enticed into an outbuilding. The victim, seven, was found near senseless with severe nervous shock, and few hopes of recovery are entertained.
Police in Burravo arrested four men matching a description, later identifying one as David Inless a deserter from the United States regular army. He was jailed and to be turned over to government authorities.
Neighbors report a masked gang entered the Charles Chase farm near Lamont Illinois and bound the Chase family during the night. They took 12000 dollars in cash from the desk and driven away five horses before fleeing. Police seek clues in the local area.
Two Strvers, Wis. Jan. 5. This morning while Joseph Sauville, a respected young resident here and Miss Rautler, to whom he was engaged to be married soon, were crossing the river ice they broke through and were drowned. Their bodies were recovered but all efforts to resuscitate them failed.
Morning fire discovered at E. T. Donnant's dry goods store in Faustina N Y totally consumed. The blaze also destroyed a millinery store in the same block causing total losses over 100,000 with partial insurance.

Quebec reports the arrest of Land Kavanagh, son of Gen. Kavanagh, for robbery claiming Lord Napier as godfather. Brooklyn’s Walter Tadley, 40, set bedding on fire at Clinton house then escaped via fire escape. arrested later, suspected mental illness. Mormon C. L. Smith, imprisoned for patricide, jumped from a Bakersfield train. recovery uncertain.

A man named John Ogden deposited a $20 check at City Bank that was raised to $32,700 and forged checks for $3,500. Bank cashiers refused payment without identification. The suspect fled after alarms, with officers mounting a search. the forged checks were claimed to come from Utica Bank.
A feature event at a pit on the Albany Troy turnpike owned by Wayside Inn proprietor pitted David Mahoney of Rochester against James Dougherty of Mahoneyville.
