Indigenous Potatoes and a California Discovery

Mr dolin E Lemman of The California Academy of Sciences reports a notable discovery from an expedition to the Andes and the Mexican highlands. He found native potato varieties at altitudes up to 10 000 feet where early frost and harsh winds hinder growth. These stock could provide durable seed for future cultivation tests by careful growers over several years. The finding supports the idea of a single origin for the potato and suggests new, vigorous varieties may replace fragile kinds currently in markets. Researchers anticipate strong outcomes from these high-altitude cultivars.
