Henry Taylor was arrested on complaint by George Morrison of Jersey City for stealing a watch and eloping with Mrs. Morrison. They appeared in court and denied larceny or elopement. Mrs. Morrison agreed to return to her husband and the charge was withdrawn.

Separately, in Cueaso Illinois, 300 men damaged the Chicago & Evanston Railway, tearing up rails over a 500 foot stretch amid wage disputes. Quito fell after fierce resistance by dictator troops, leaving streets littered with bodies. Antero appeared a bold figure in the fighting.
Washington notes that Randall will decline to act as a conferee on the revenue bill. The Senate delays consideration of the Mexican commercial treaty until December. A special dispatch notes the First National Bank suspended today. It had paid up capital of £100,000 and a claimed surplus of over $20,000 intact. No reason for the suspension was given.
Three prominent tailors smuggled twenty five thousand dollars worth of fine clothing and tailor goods through New York custom houses. The trunks valises and packages were seized at the stores and another lot at Philadelphia. Inspectors offered no explanation for the passage of the goods.
