The Army reports Brigadier General Swaim is suspended from rank and duty for twelve years and forfeits half of monthly pay during the period. This is the third verdict. earlier sentences varied in severity and enforceability. President Arthur approves the final sentence as the best of the three.
Senate yesterdays plenary session included a memorial from the Legislature of Honors urging action on a bill by Mr. Deanes to authorize the President to negotiate with the Creek Seminole and Cherokee for the sale of unused lands.
