Fire in French baking powder works ruins main building

Fires swept through the main building of French saccoua and French baking powder manufactory in New York. The entire structure burned, neighboring houses saved with great effort. Loss listed at 9,000 for G. W. Newman building and 85,000 for French Palmer French, with 22,000 insured. W. B. Hill's upper floor space also damaged and insured for 3,000. Thirty men unemployed.

Eastern New York Beekeepers Elect Officers Findings

Deadly Fire Ravages Chestnut Street Factory District

A devastating blaze in a five story brick building at 119 Chestnut Street, Pierpont's, destroyed wool and yarn stocks, killed laborer John McKay, and injured several others. The fire spread to adjacent stores, including Tyvine & Co and George H. McFadden & Co, with walls collapsing and crowds dispersing as rockets and candles illuminated Second Street.
