DISTRESSED STORM AND FLOOD DEVASTATE SCRANTON AREA
In Scranton and surrounding towns on Feb 15 the telegraph line was restored as three quarters of the town remained underwater. The flood, seven feet higher than in 1883, has destroyed brick buildings and swept away homes with frame houses lifted from foundations. Courts, post offices, and schools are inundated while aid committees seek funds from Columbus. Weather worsened with fierce winds, more damage expected, and lumber yards and the courthouse breached by floodwaters.
