Official Announcement of General Sherman Retirement

Washington Feb. The President issues the retirement order for General William T. Sherman General of the Army aged sixty four on the retired list with full pay. The note reflects national gratitude and respect for his long service during the Civil War and beyond, while wishing him health and happiness in retirement.

Rebels dispersed in Nan dinh and Sontay provinces

Official dispatches from Tonquin report that rebels in Nan dinh and Sontay were dispersed with heavy losses. Rebel leader De Duc wounded, fled to Bachind. Four to five hundred rebels slain. Gunboat Parceve destroyed pirate nests at Savalow and Pontainsou. Hue shows excellent conduct. two delegates named to aid Admiral Courbet.
