Wreck of Indianapolis Train on Broad Ripple Bridge
A southbound train on the Indianapolis and Chicago Air Line plunged seven miles from Indianapolis at Broad Ripple. The two-span truss bridge over White River failed amid fire and wreckage. Six died and several injured. passengers and crew faced flames, freezing water, and chaotic rescue efforts as officials extinguished the blaze and identified victims by personal effects.
