Horrible murder tale aboard ship told by survivor

An exhausted oyster boat survivor from Fairmount in the Chesapeake recounted a grim story of a captain killing a sailor with a shovel on a vessel near Tanger Sound last Thursday. The body was dismembered with an ax and cast overboard while the crew washed blood from the deck. The man, later captured at Princess Anne, described fears of retribution as sleet and exposure mounted.

Death of Louis Kossuth reported from Italy

Dispatch from Turin reports the death of Louis Kossuth, Hungarian patriot born April 27, 1803 in Monok. A leader of liberal reforms, he faced treason charges, lived in exile in Turkey and later in France and England, touring the United States in 1851, before settling in Turin.
