A mob seized the town last evening during an Evangelical service, broke church windows, tore dresses from attending women, and stoned accompanying women. Several were severely injured as the mob roamed the streets for hours singing.
A two story frame house on West Fifty fourth Street known as Nigger Row, housing forty seven families, burned yesterday evening. Four Judsons perished in the flames: Mattie, Mabel and Edgar aged nine, five and one, the father white and the mother colored. Many residents barely escaped. Loss set at 20000 dollars. BERLINGTOS. la, Dec. 4. Governors building among city’s most important blocks, housing clothing and American Express Company offices, caught fire early this morning.
