Labor bill aimed at curbing foreign labor imports

The Senate committee on Education and Labor reported a measure to prohibit importation or migration of aliens under any employment agreement into U S jurisdictions. Violations face penalties up to 1000 dollars and disqualification from federal service. The act excludes personal servants and sailors and allows licenses for skilled labor shortages upon presidential approval. Sudden Death of George Ewing the Scotch Sculptor

New York April 27 A Scottish sculptor George Edward Ewing who had lived in Philadelphia for a time died in his bed this morning at about age fifty four. Ewing had come to America years ago and earned commissions from notable figures including Miss Eden Terry and the actor Irving. He was a guest at the Brevoort House while working on medallions and had just completed several busts for prominent society members.

Murders near Audubon and jailbreak by kin

Late last night Sheriff Herbert and posse captured John Smythe and Cicero Jefferson, accused of murdering Kiram Jefferson. Kiram was dragged from bed and hanged to a tree near Audubon. Sheriff Herbert was wounded in the pursuit. The crime is blamed on an old family quarrel.
