Bell’s group fired into the shanty, killing the Ward brothers, amid threats of lynching the alleged killer. Also notes on English news, prize fighters departing for England, and a South Carolina bank cashier murder arrest.
Special dispatch notes Reed and Brenneman well No 441 is reported in and in good condition. Grandin No 7 is showing up very favorably and large, according to the April 25 Evening Observer dispatch from Tirusiiese.
The President appoints James B Hoyt as postmaster at Bolivar New York and Charles P Williams as Consul at Rouen. Cabinet discussed foreign affairs civil service rules and revenue needs. A U S steamer Tallapoosa incident is under review. Pekin case judgments and whisky claim compromises were reviewed for relief considerations.

Telegraph items report the Pennsylvania senate killed a bill prohibiting one person from treating another. Other notes mention a violent shooting in Stewartsville Kentucky, Crook gathering 300 troops with 200 Indian scouts for a 90 day campaign, and a fatal shooting of J. T. Clark by his partner Franks. Weather reports note four inches of snow at Champaign Wisconsin and frost in central Illinois while Syerstown Pa. reports excitement over a possible gold vein. Mary Welch captured at Newark suspected in Rochester murder. she claims innocence and travels seeking work.
Five Oclock Dispatches report Reed and Brennan LN navigation opened on Lake Erie. The propeller Duduth just arrived from Cleveland marking the first arrival of the season. Wabash line propellers Sage and Gault are in sight and nearing Buffalo with expected port arrival in about thirty minutes.
