In Turner County near Parker, over 260 common rust spreading barberries were discovered on farms in Parker Hurley and Norway townships. R C Bulger reports rust stems likely spread from birds. Duane Cram deserves credit for reporting the bushes to the eradication office.

Menno Man Buys At Nearly $100 Per Acre

MENNO Sept 28. Among land sales near here reported recently a quarter section sold by George T Wagner for 15 000 or 92 50 an acre and a quarter north of Olivet sold by Sandy Bingoman for 80 an acre. TD M trofer Freeman sold a quarter for 15000 and the OLl Springs core of Mennonites sold 4500 acres to the north part of Hutchison county taking in exchange 000 acres in Alberta Canada.

Cattle and Poultry Gold Prices at Baldwin Farm Sale

At Mellette on September 2, a Baldwin farm sale by tenant Charles Bord saw cows sell from 101 to 143 dollars, spring pigs at 39 dollars apiece, with cows calves chickens turkeys and sheep selling proportionately well though horses were slow.

Brookings Cabinet Shop Damaged In Fire

A Thursday morning blaze at the Carlsen cabinet shop in Brookings caused about 1500 dollars in damage. The fire began in a lumber drying kiln. Mr. Carlsen started the fire in the kiln and later found smoke near the skylight. Fire crews extinguished the flames after significant damage to a lumber stack.

Redfield Yields Good for Ceres Wheat in Spink County

Redfield reports show Ceres wheat outperforming other varieties by five to six bushels on several Spink county farms. Earl P. Price sowed 10 bushels on 14 acres and thrsihed 180 bushels. J C Hanson and Elias D. Bastian also reported 13 to 14 bushels per acre, with Ceres yielding six more than amber durum. A carload of Ceres seed was introduced via state college extension, grown by 67 farmers. one farmer sold seed at threshing for 1.75 a bushel.

Lake County Gets 2000 Black Bass Fingerlings

Madison reports R L Ripple of the state game department delivered 2000 large mouth black bass fingerlings to Lake county. They were placed in Lakes Flermain, Madison, Badus and Bratct, measuring 3 to 4 " inches. Ripple noted the fingerlings are too large to be harmed by carp, buffalo and other rough fish. Local Walton League backing has aided stocking at Duke Madison and Lake Herman with perch bull heads crapples wall-eyed p mouth black bass, and pickerel proliferating in L sou. Ripple would authorize seining Lake Madison to remove suckers, buffalo and carp if residents request it. without such a request no work can be done.

Cattle Reported Dead In Storm At De Smet

Several head of horses and cattle were killed by lightning during storms on Wednesday and Thursday near De Smet. A riding horse owned by W J Hunter and a pony belonging to his son Billy were killed in a pasture by the town edge. Rainfall records show 2.99 inches officially, with 3.15 inches on Wednesday, the heaviest in years.

On September 28 Mrs. Glaze was elected a delegate to the Minneapolis branch convention of the Woman's Foreign Missionary Society to be held in Aberdeen. She will represent the Hitchcock society and the next meeting is set for Wednesday afternoon in the church basement.

Truck tips into ditch near Hitchcock. no injuries

A truck skidded on a muddy road east of Hitchcock and tipped into the ditch. The driver George Poe and passenger Lyssa Permigon were unhurt. A section crew helped right the vehicle and it continued to the Dan Benedict home.

Pool Debts Paid In Lake Preston

Lake Preston reports its 1926 pool, built for 10900, is fully paid after three years. Last checks went to contributors with eight percent interest. The 70 by 140 foot pool holds over 300000 gallons, features ten springboards, a bath house, shower services and a purifier. Funding came from popular subscription with notes to the Chamber of Commerce repaid from pool income. Volunteers did the construction work.
