Twelve new instructors join Eastern State Teachers College as enrollment grows and the curriculum expands. New hires include physics and athletics instructor John Burns from Kemper College, music director Vernon Nowh, and education specialists such as Er. L. Hunt, Gladys Layler, Emma Miller, and Miss Dickson. Several hold degrees from Columbia, Kansas, Iowa, and Wisconsin.

University Band To Perform At Yankton Coyote Game

The military band of the University of South Wakota under A T Ireland will play at the Yankton Coyote football game Saturday. The 50 piece ensemble, in its 61st year, will be led by Cadet First Lieutenant Harold Steck with instruction from Prof. Ireland. Members include Vermillion players and others from Pierre Madison Wentworth Scotland Wadson, and more, split into two sections for formal instruction.

Brookings, Sept. av The Grane Prookings, a leading hatchery, will expand this winter by 63,000 eggs and open branches in Brookings and Lake Preston. The home plant capacity is 309,000 eggs per sitting. William Crane, proprietor, is noted as a top grower in the state.

Brookings September 26 Ace will not save Mrs. Eien Morris the year cla widow of Aurora from going to jail as the result of liquor charge She will be sentenced Tuesday by Judge W W Knight Mrs Morris pleaded guilty to keeping and storing liquor It is her second offense The penalty is not less than six months or more than two years in the state penitentiary Coming here in 1880 Mrs Morris is one of the pioneers of Brookings county.

Castlewood Farmer Holds 1609 Acre Farm Record

Castlewood farmer George School is believed to own the largest acreage in Hamiln county this season. He planted 360 acres of potatoes and corn, including two seasons of migrant clove, totaling nearly 1600 acres.

Fire Destroys Garage And Car At Webster

Webster, Sept. 26. Albert Kriech farm eight miles north of Webster lost a double garage a new Chevrolet car and farm tools in a blaze. The hired man, milking alone, smelled smoke and found the garage burning as the Webster fire department arrived too late. The car, recently purchased, was owned by the worker on the Kriech farm and a short circuit is suspected.

Large Crowds Attend Lake Madison Church Anniversary

Large crowds gathered at the Lake Madison Lutheran church in Malison for the 30th anniversary celebration. Organized in 1879, the event drew hundreds of old settlers. Speakers included Rev. C. K Solberg and Rev. C. S. Bergstad from Minneapolis, with sermons in Norwegian and English.
