Hunters Asked To Report Bags In Western South Dakota
Hunters entering the Western South Dakota grouse and prairie chicken season are urged by the Game and Fish Department to report the number of old and young birds killed during the five half day season ending Sept 27. Deputy wardens will check bags and hunters may mail reports. Mr. Johnson says reports help determine if the new bird crop is being harvested or parent stock killed. He offers three methods to identify young birds: skull crush test, lower bill cannot support body weight, and cartilage at the sternum remains pliable.
