Feeding Ranges In S D Reported Poor
South Dakota feeding ranges are poor and short with light hay and grain crops in most of the range area except Black Hills. Federal statistician C J Borum said late August into September rains helped some pastures and later crops but did not lift the water shortage, which remains critical west of the Missouri River. Ranchers, facing low live stock prices, are selling sparingly while feed shortages drive some movement to market, though livestock will be kept as long as feed lasts.
