Waterway Seen In River Diversion Plan From Gulf to Byrdson Bay
Waterway from the Gulf of Mexico to Byrdson Bay would be created by the Missouri river diversion, says B E Lovejoy former South Dakota state engineer. He notes a low pass in Moraine at Britton and a plan to divert Missouri River water from the James River at Oakes to the Coteaus near His Vans to feed the head of the Minnesota and Red rivers. The project would irrigate about one million acres of marginal wheat lands around a proposed new lake between Garrison and Wiliston, ND, by a dam on the Missouri at Garrison. Missouri River Diversion Association officers say these discoveries were not in the original plan and would greatly enhance the project.
