Fowler Cleared In Girget Court

Mitchell Sept 13 Tom Fowler was cleared of per spirating federal officer charges after Judge Bakewell sustained a demurrer. The ruling found no violation of posing as an official due to technical law wording. State evidence about Fowler and Harry Davis selling liquor to John Latusee was deemed insufficient for larceny.

First Indians Begin Chemawa School Pioneering Sioux Pupils

The first delegation of Sioux pupils to Chemawa Institute Oregon under the Interior Department education plan left for Chemawa. The group of twenty Lares boys and girls will form the first Sioux attendance at Chemawa with larger groups to follow in non reservation schools across the Dakotas and beyond. Madison police report August arrests total 123, fines amounting to 240 dollars. Five reckless driving, three intoxication, three vagrancy, one improper parking, one sanitary violation.

All Madison Schools See Attendance Rise in Enrollment

Preliminary enrollment figures from Madison public schools and colleges show higher attendance in most departments. Total enrollment in the free schools Lincoln Washington Garfield reaches 492 with 7 more in the eighth grade. high school attendance is 283 per Superintendent Hunt. Eastern Normal shows a gain of 10. parochial schools report exceptionally heavy enrollment per Father Esan.

Deuel County Fair Opens Thursday in Clear Lake

Arrangements are complete for the annual fair of the Duel County Fair Association to be held in Clear Lake September 19 20 and 21. Exhibits are expected to be stronger this year as crops have been good across the district with grain crops especially promising.

Madison Sept 1 The September term of circuit court in Lake County was postponed two weeks to September 23 by order from Judge Dougherty who is detained by press. One jury case is listed on the calendar, largely involving liquor law violations.

Freshmen at Eastern State Teachers College participate in orientation activities from September 9 to 20 to learn college customs traditions and activities. The student senate with Arnold Olsbo Joyce Gregory and George Hollister along with faculty members and upperclassmen lead events for new students during registration which began September 6 for upperclassmen and Tuesday for freshmen. A chapel period included announcements about wearing green caps and class rules followed by a Wednesday night instruction session for all freshmen.
