South Dakota Expands Home Economics Projects
Pierre Sept 11 Special emphasis will be placed on home school cooperation and student project work in South Dakota home economics departments. Florence Sly, state director, reported rising fall enrollment in homemaking, with 1885 girls in state aid departments last year. Willow Bake and Scotland are new state aid departments this year and more may qualify. Last year 45 percent of girls in schools with home economics were enrolled. Projects covered foods, clothing, child care, home care and management, and miscellaneous practices, totaling 872 projects. Teachers visit homes to improve quality. 66 teachers meet state aid standards and 111 South Dakota high schools offer home economics courses. The State Fair exhibit includes several departments.
