Provo Grew Into Large Black Hills Camp Terteltown
Provo has transformed from a tiny ranching stop into a wartime settlement area around the Black Hills. Army engineers chose a treeless, gumbo site, creating Provo and a model town named Terteltown to house and care for thousands of workers. Living conditions are improving with a new sewer system, running water, and health measures, while barracks, a general store, a theater, a post office, and recreational facilities map a self-contained project town.
