A state audit reveals concealed shortages kept on file in WPB records. Nelson is expected to respond soon as labor officials press for clarification and action.
Organized labor presented to WPB Chairman Donald M. Nelson a demand for direct labor representation on the War Production Board and for a production planning and coordination board with labor control. A six member AFL CIO policy committee would advise on policy while a proposed replacement for the Hinman chair could be Wendell Lund of Detroit. The request includes joint government labor management policy committees and elimination of overlapping agency duties.
An army of workers prepared the South Dakota State Fair Grounds for the 58th annual exposition starting Labor Day morning. Co B Hansen stated readiness was achieved ahead of schedule and several exhibits were being finalized. The City of Huron planned courtesy hours for merchants and postal service details were announced with limited rural deliveries.
