Dry Ice Frozen At 114 Below Zero In South Dakota
A Huron Dairy Products plant in Huron introduces dry ice packaging for party ice cream orders. Ice cream is placed in a pasteboard box with a small piece of dry ice so it remains at quality temperature for twenty four hours without additional refrigeration. Dry ice reaches about 114 degrees below zero and leaves no liquid when melted.

Railroads Win Authority to Cut Grain Freight Rates
The Interstate Commerce Commission granted southern railroads, including the Kansas City Southern, permission to reduce grain and grain product freight rates to the Gulf of Mexico. Kansas City Southern was allowed a seven cents per bushel cut effective August 15, while other lines may implement smaller reductions by notice. Some applications to reduce rates from Omaha St Louis and Minnesota points to the gulf were denied. the ICC said full petitions were required.

Chicago plane forced to land in endurance flight attempt
The Chicago plane, after 291 hours and two minutes aloft, was forced to land near Patterson New Jersey as pilots Nussell Mossman and C. E. Steele prepared for a possible return to fly the world endurance record. A new motor was installed and after a 12 day 3 hour stint the crew slept briefly before the magneto trouble ended the flight. Steele lost weight during the ordeal and both pilots emerged fatigued from the long journey.

Funeral Held For Pioneer Of Ashton
Funeral services were held at the community church for Lonn Druley age 80, a pioneer of the Ashton area. He died Monday after a lingering illness and is survived by two sons Tol and Carl and three daughters, including Mrs Bendack of Melville.
