Val Lund, a Sioux City airplane pilot, died when his craft dived from about 2,000 feet and crashed near Barrett, Minnesota, about 300 miles north of Sioux City. Elmer Hjelle, of Barrett, also died. witnesses saw the left wing seem to crack. Lund had lived in Sioux City four months and previously worked at Rickenbacker airport. He served as an Army flyer in Los Angeles. He is survived by his parents and sister.
