Aberdeen October 23 Six hundred twenty nine memberships were received by October 15 in South Dakota American Legion drive for 15000 members. G Kelley says last year 400 new cards by December 1. Posts statewide reinstate charters and contests form as districts and posts rival for largest membership. Sioux Falls Aberdeen Watertown plan a special contest for top state membership.

Auto accidents kill 48 in eight months in South Dakota

South Dakota reported 48 deaths from automobile accidents in the first eight months of 1929, with August accounting for 19 fatalities. The Travelers Insurance study covers 27 states and estimates about 2,800 national deaths from vehicle accidents in August, a rise over both July and the previous August.
