Unusual Books On Display At State College Library
Brookings reports a display of 36 renowned novels from American and foreign authors at the State College Library. Librarian Dean Stallings notes rare bindings, new type fonts created for printing, and hand colored illustrations. The collection includes a German print and a book from Czechoslovakia, with Rip Van Winkle in Kaatskill type designed by Frederic W. Goudy, who spent three years in South Dakota. Goudy has designed over 50 type faces. Vanity Fair with Joan Austen illustrations is valued high among the works.
